Marcia Lausen

Marcia Lausen is the Director of the School of Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago and founder of the Chicago office of Studio/lab. At UIC Marcia leads a renowned faculty of professional designers who are establishing new programs at the forefront of design education and practice. As a design and academic leader, Marcia is an advocate for the value of design in commercial, cultural, urban, and civic activity. Studio/lab maintains a client base that spans these sectors.

In 2000, Marcia played a leading role in AIGA Design for Democracy, a national election design reform initiative that led to federal guidelines for the design of ballots and election materials. Her book of the same title was published in 2007 by the University of Chicago Press. Marcia received a BFA in graphic design from Indiana University and an MFA in graphic design from Yale University. She was named a 2004 Fast Company Master of Design and a 2010 fellow of AIGA. In 2015 she received the AIGA Medal.
